Learn more about Mato Tope, Four Bears

Mato Tope, Four Bears was one of the featured works in my 2010 one-man show, Portraits of Honor.

In order to paint this historical figure who was originally portrayed by both George Catlin and Karl Bodmer, I performed weeks of research.  You can read more about Mato Tope and his people here: About Mato Tope, Four Bears.

I knew when I started this piece that I wanted to provide a striking composition to accentuate this noble man. I drew inspiration from an earlier painting of mine, Undaunted Leader.
